Unfolding. 28/05/2016

An unseasonably late rose bud, touched by the wicked storms of the last week and a half, still sweetly unfurling, still holding its beauty, still rewarding me. It is an amazing thing that such delicate material as rose petals can be so tightly held in the closed buds and then gradually unfold without damage, into their intricate forms. There are not many materials in the world you can scrunch up like that which will come out unbruised or unmarked. It intrigues me as a person working with textiles - sometimes playing on the nature of fabric to hold the mark of folds, sometimes deploying the science of ironing to remove all evidence of the scrunching. Sometimes man is not so smart.
